Call for Papers Deadline April 1, 2005 Selection Criteria: The particular focus of this conference is to profile, in a practical way, actual working initiatives and exemplary models of development world-wide that attempt to integrate sustainable and equitable economic development with environmental conservation, cultural promotion, and good governance — the four pillars of Bhutan's Gross National Happiness strategy. We have invited speakers who represent such models to present them, mostly in workshops rather than plenary sessions, in order to allow ample opportunity for discussion and study of how those models might be practically replicated or applied elsewhere. At this stage, only papers that fit this theme and only authors who have practical, personal experience in creating and running such working initiatives can be selected for actual oral presentation in workshops. However, more theoretical and conceptual papers are still welcomed, as are those on other themes related to Gross National Happiness and to wholistic development that integrates social, economic, and environmental objectives. We fully recognize that such papers can be highly relevant to the conference theme, and greatly enrich the conference. Accepted papers will be posted on the conference website, and we would encourage authors to display the results, graphically where at all possible, in a prominent poster exhibit at the conference itself, where they can easily viewed by all delegates (see details below). If resources permit, the papers may also be published after the conference. Because this conference is entirely hosted by non-profit organizations, we are not in a financial position to waive conference costs based on paper submissions or presentations. We must therefore ask all those submitting papers to follow normal registration, payment, and financial aid application procedures Because financial resources are very limited, we urge those submitting papers to seek financial support for their participation in the conference to the extent possible from their own countries, organizations, and universities. In particular, paper submission frequently does qualify researchers for travel and conference support from academic institutions. Limited financial aid is available for work study positions; so if your attendance is dependent on financial aid, please complete the work-study form on the registration page. Please submit an abstract (approximately 250 words) that details the purpose, results and conclusion of your research. Each submission should include a coversheet with the researcher's contact information, including: name, address, email and phone number. |
