Membership
GPIAtlantic is committed to engaging and interacting with members and keeping them informed and updated about our activities.
Who Should Become a Member?
Policy makers, researchers, non-profit organizations, businesses, communities and individuals who see a need for new measures to assess our wellbeing will find a wealth of useful materials in our detailed and original research. GPIAtlantic provides relevant and concrete information for a growing community of people who are concerned about the legacy we will leave our children. Our members often have the opportunity to participate in or collaborate on projects, and we encourage all members to share their thoughts and ideas with us.
A contribution through membership directly supports GPIAtlantic research and the continuing development of the Genuine Progress Index. As a non-profit group and a registered charity, we depend on this support.
Member Rights
Members will receive a direct invitation via email to any Annual General, General Membership, or Special Meeting of GPIAtlantic. All members are entitled to attend and speak at any of these meetings. Members are entitled to vote on a motion resolution or question put to a meeting.
All members will receive our quarterly newsletter, GPI News, electronically. Members will also receive a hard copy of Reality Check: The Canadian Review of Wellbeing. Members will also receive advance notices of upcoming events, press conferences and media releases.
Member Responsibilities
Members will pay a one-time membership fee of $10. Payment of this fee will grant the individual life-time status as a member of GPIAtlantic. Membership is non-transferable. If an individual no longer wishes to be considered a member of GPI Atlantic, he/she must inform GPIAtlantic in writing. Should an individual cancel her or his life-time membership and then re-join as a member of GPIAtlantic, the membership fee will be charged again.
All members are also encouraged to contribute to the maintenance of GPIAtlantic with an additional donation over and above the $10 life-time fee. If a donation over $10 is made by a non-member, the first $10 will automatically be considered the life-time membership fee and the donor becomes a member, unless explicitly specified otherwise by the donor. GPI Atlantic is a registered charity, thus a receipt for donations above the $10 membership fee will be sent to the donor for taxation purposes.
